Newsletter: District 10 WOTFA Chapter
Greetings, fiddle enthusiasts!
We hope this newsletter finds you well as summer unfolds and the fiddle festivities continue to captivate our hearts. There is an array of exciting events happening in the fiddle world, and we’re thrilled to bring you the latest updates from our District 10 WOTFA Chapter.
National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Week:
As many of you know, National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Week is an annual celebration that takes place during the third full week of June. This year, the event spans from June 18 to 24. Held in Weiser, Idaho, in the western United States, this gathering is a captivating blend of an old-time music contest competition, festival, and musical meeting.
The heart of the event is the contest hosted at Weiser High School’s gymnasium, where talented musicians from across the country showcase their fiddling prowess. It’s truly a sight to behold as approximately 350 fiddlers participate in eight divisions, each striving to impress the audience and judges alike. With around 10,000 attendees each year, the atmosphere is electric with a shared passion for music and the rich heritage of old-time fiddling.
Aside from the contest, National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Week also offers a myriad of special events. Performances by renowned fiddlers, captivating workshops, spirited band battles, a vibrant parade, and a delightful carnival all contribute to the festive ambiance. It’s a week that brings together fiddle enthusiasts, fostering a sense of camaraderie and appreciation for this cherished art form. We are also delighted to announce that our own District 10 Chair, Denice Carter, will be attending the Weiser event. Her presence adds to the excitement as she joins the gathering of fiddle enthusiasts from all over the country, representing our District 10 WOTFA Chapter.
