Welcome to April. Hopefully it won’t be as soggy a month as March was. We’ve been sliding down our hill when we tried to garden. That’s not fun! Thankfully there has been music to fill the days with enjoyment.
We had a good group of musicians at our meeting/jam in March. Bernie ran our meeting as Tyler was sick. Many of us have had colds or flu and everyone has been considerate to stay away and get healthy before they return. The Smith family came and enjoyed playing music as well as offering girl scout cookies for sale. We enjoyed seeing Cici and Emma dressed in their girl scout vests and doing the selling. Kathy brought her stand up bass and made the music better by keeping us on the beat with her low notes. We all enjoyed our shared meal and socializing during the break from jamming. Here are some pictures of this event.
There were two events that took place on the last Sat. of March. One was the funeral of Jack Hadfield who I mentioned in the last newsletter. This was a very nice service for all who attended and was held at Jack’s home church, Trinity Lutheran in Enumclaw close to where he lived. The following is a link to his obituary. https://weeksfuneralhomes.com/ Look under obituaries in Enumclaw and then you can click on Jack Hadfield. It is very interesting to learn about his life outside of the fiddlers. Here is a picture of Jack playing at one of our jams in September last year.
The other event was the jam we had on March 22. I heard from several people who attended that this was a real nice jam. They enjoyed playing with a smaller group of people because they were each able to choose quite a few songs. A couple of people came just to listen to the music because Clayton had invited them. It’s always nice to have a bit of an audience during a jam. Michael and Miles chose to play one of their songs (I’ll fly Away) in honor of Jack’s funeral which took place earlier in the day. Here are a couple of pictures from this jam.
Our events for the next few months are as follows:
1. Sat, April 5th, Meeting/jam 11 am – 4 pm
2. Sat, April 26th, Circle jam 1 pm – 4 pm
3. Sat, May 3rd, Bonus Circle jam 1 pm – 4 pm
4. Sat, June 7th, Bonus Circle jam 1 pm – 4 pm
5. Sat September 6, Meeting/jam 11 am – 4 pm (notice the break during the summer months)
The website has more information about our events. Be sure to look them up. On the homepage, pick HOME, then ABOUT US, then District 6. You will see upcoming events for District 6 and quite a few newsletters starting with the most recent. It’s a great resource. Check it out.
Thanks to everyone in District 6 who plays at our playdates. It is great that you all donate your time to make people happy and continue earning money for our district which we use for summer workshop scholarships and renting the space where we hold our events.
Keep up the music in your hearts and in your days with practice or jamming. Questions or comments, email me at timbuktoe@yahoo.com
Thanks for reading.
