Welcome to 2024 everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful time at Christmas and New Years with family and friends.  Our Christmas party was great fun.  We had a nice group of people and a variety of instruments.  The food was yummy and we had ham left over, so many people got to take some home.  I know we ate well for the rest of the month!  A big thank you to Tyler, who bought and cooked the ham.  Also, Earl had some Christmas cookies to give to everyone which was a great surprise.  I think that was my personal favorite Christmas present (I got to eat a variety of yummy cookies that I didn’t have to bake).  The pictures below are from this party.

Our January meeting and jam was a hit as well.  We had a smaller group than in December, but it was fun in a different way.  We each got to pick more songs and we played so much we packed up about 3:30 pm.  We were tired, but happy!   And, by the way, Tyler, that was the best meeting we have ever had.  Thanks!  It’s been great fun to play music with Tyler since he’s been the chair of District 6.  I’ve included some pictures below and the first one features Tyler.  The second one features Cici Smith playing her first song on the fiddle for us.  Way to go Cici!

Upcoming events for District 6:

February 2024:

On the first Sat. in February, we will have our meeting and jam which falls on the 3rd.  It will be held at the DesMoines Masonic Lodge from 11 am until 4 pm.

On the fourth Sat. of the month we will have a circle jam only. This falls on the 24th in February and will be held at the same place as the first one.  The difference is the time.  The jam is from 1 pm until 4 pm.

March 2024:

On the first Sat. in March, we will have our meeting and jam which falls on the 2nd.  It will be held at the same place as the others and run from 11 am until 4 pm.

On the fourth Sat. in March, we will have our circle jam.  It starts at 1 pm and goes until 4 pm.

All events can be found on the calendar on the WOTFA.org site.  This will tell all the details if you click on the District 6 event on the calendar.

Thanks again to Tyler, Bernie and Ena (our officers) for all the work they do.  Also, to Earl who really runs the show as he opens the doors and does set up, tear down, and clean up for each event we have at the DesMoines Masonic Lodge.

Keep playing.  Music is great for the soul.

Have a great February, I’ll see you in March.  In the meantime, try to laugh a little!
