Happy May! Hope you’ve enjoyed some of the sunny days recently.

Did you know that the third Saturday in May is World Fiddle Day? World Fiddle Day was first celebrated in 2012, founded by Irish fiddler and composer Caoimhín Mac Aoidh. The day was chosen to honor the legacy of Antonio Stradivari, the legendary Italian luthier whose craftsmanship elevated the violin and its variants to new heights. By dedicating a day to this instrument, musicians and cultural advocates aim to preserve and promote the fiddle’s remarkable contribution to music history.  District 5 will celebrate the day May 17th at our last monthly business meeting until September at the Kitsap Square Dance Hall on W Belfair Rd from 11-3 pm on World Fiddle Day--come and celebrate the day with us!  We play from 11-12 by ear and muscle memory (no written music), take a quick finger food break for our business meeting and then resume jamming until 3 pm.  After the meeting you can use your music stand if you want.

And, of course, there’s Fiddle Camp in July!  Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones while we play both old and new tunes together.

District 5 is still jamming every Tuesday from 1-4.  1st and 3rd Tuesday jams at the Silverdale Mall from 1-4 (in the Community Room next to Dick’s Sporting Goods).  In May, we move 2nd, 3rd and any 4th Tuesday jams back to the Barn in Belfair at the Salmon Center~ 600 NE Roesel Rd.  The Barn provides shade and shelter but is not heated, so dress accordingly.  Nice place for a hike along the Hood Canal.  We keep meeting new folks, musicians and regular audience members.  Always a treat!   Come join us and bring a friend.

SAVE THE DATE…..District 5 Campout is Friday, Saturday and Sunday Labor Day weekend.  Food, fun, camping and playing for the square dancers makes for a real fine time.  Join us!  Stay tuned.  Our facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/WOTFA5/
