Spring went flying by, and we have been busy! The Northwest Regional Fiddle Contest in Spokane Valley was well-attended, with over twenty young fiddlers playing on stage in the Small Fry and Junior categories. Somebody is doing something very right, encouraging those young kids to bolster enough confidence to get in front of an audience and play. There were raffles and auctions for terrific stuff, terrific performances, and some of the usual skullduggery. I swear, someone sprinkled my bow with black pepper, so that when I drew my bow, I had to fight off a sneeze each time. I wasn’t able to get to Addy to play at Fiddlers On The Peak, though I heard it was great fun, even with lower attendance than in past years. I think attendance was also lower at Street Music Week, a fundraiser for the local food bank. I wish someone else would come stand with me on a street corner and play the spoons or the beat box, just to keep time. Can’t have everything, I guess. Anyway, I will be back next year, as I hope others will. We are now looking forward to gathering in Cashmere, I hope everyone is checking their tuner and storing an extra pick, as I may twist your arm to sign up for the Band Scramble!
