While some elite musicians around the Spokane area are packing for Weiser, many of us are looking forward to Fiddle Camp at the end of July. Weiser, Winthrop, Wapato, Wenatchee – I tend to get them all confused, but they are all within a few miles of each other, so it doesn’t matter. We’ve finished the Northwest Fiddle Competition and Fiddlers On The Peak, and many of us need a month or so to rest up and shake out the rosin dust. There are various music festivals taking place through the state if you are inclined to travel to hear live music, including the Bluewaters Bluegrass Festival in nearby Medical Lake in early August. This festival will feature some of WOTFA/Chapter 2’s brightest young musicians in Will and Rob Bailey and Helen Huegenin, appearing as Shiloh Mountain Band. Some outstanding musicians are going to perform, including Vickie Vaughn of Della Mae, Cameron DeWhitt and Chris Jones. If you don’t believe me, look up Bluewatersbluegrass.org. One way or another, I hope to see you in Wenatchee, Medical Lake, or maybe busking for dimes at the train station on King Street in Seattle.
