Welcome to fall everybody!  That seemed like a quick transition from summer to fall weather here in King County.  I’ll miss the warm weather but I’ll try to enjoy the fall colors and not take our fantastic greenery for granted.  The rain and moderate temps are the reason we have such a beautiful place to live.

It was loads of fun at our first meeting/jam in early September.  We had quite a few people show up and a wonderful time catching up when we ate lunch together after the meeting.  We were especially glad to have Michael Harris join us because he adds such energy and fun to any gathering!  I’ve included some pictures from our time together, but unfortunately they didn’t include Michael (maybe next time I’ll catch him in one).  They are shown below:

The most recent jam in September was enjoyable as well.  We again had a good group and a couple of newcomers, Chuck and Michael who added to our mix.  However, we missed the kids who stayed home so they wouldn’t spread their colds to us.  Thanks to the Smith family for their consideration.  We took pictures at this jam also and they are shown below:

For October, we have two events planned.  The first will have already taken place Oct. 7th from 11 am – 4 pm before you read this.  It includes jamming, a short mtg (with elections) followed by lunch and then more jamming.  I’ll let you know in the November newsletter what happened at it.

October’s 2nd event will be a jam on the 28th from 1 – 4 pm.  For details, see the calendar on WOTFA.org for all events.

Put Sat, the 4th from 11 am to 4 pm on your calendar for our meeting plus jam in November.  This is the only event we have during the month because Thanksgiving falls too close to our normal jam date at the end of the month.  The November newsletter comes out after the fact so don’t forget.

Our playdates to earn funds for District 6 are going along each month pretty well.  We’ve even added a new one each month and we are thinking about adding another as well.  We’ll have to see if there are people wanting to play at these before we accept more.  We are so grateful to all the people who volunteer their time to play in these.  And to Bernie for coordinating all of them.  Please contact him with any questions at bernus.turner@comcast.net

The time has come around again to renew your membership in WOTFA.  It’s a really good organization and your membership includes insurance coverage for you when you play at the playdates.  You can renew online or by check in the mail.  It’s so reasonable at $25 per year and $5 extra for each additional household member.  If you prefer to renew by mail with a check, contact the membership chair, Noel Lareau at noelula@aol.com or 360-691-5907 to see what information you need to send and where to send it.

Next, some fun, good news.  Adam Kimball (a really good banjo player who played with the fiddlers when he was younger) is getting married on Oct. 7th.  We send congrats to him and his new wife.

Keep up the music and email me with any questions or nice comments.
