Welcome to March everybody. Our district has had lots of fun this winter with our events and playdates. We have a pretty full schedule of playdates each month which Bernie coordinates. We all appreciate him taking care of that because it’s a lot of work. The people we play for enjoy the music and interaction with the musicians. Also, thanks to all the musicians who faithfully play for free every month to earn money for our district’s expenses and support for our kids to learn and grow with their musical abilities.
Tyler tried out a new NE end Jam at the Kingsgate library on February 1st which was a real hit. It met a real need for the people who live up north and can’t get to the Mason’s Hall where we have our regular jams. There were a variety of musicians of different ages and abilities. They all played each song together which makes a really fun jam. He’s going to try to hold a jam for the North end somewhere several times this year. He will send out a mass mailing tothe people who might be interested each time he schedules one.. Below is a picture showing the circle of people jamming together:

Our meeting/jam on February 7th was also a big hit. It is so enjoyable to be able to play music together and also have time for lunch and socializing during our first Sat. of the month event at the Mason’s Hall in Des Moines. Quite a few people attended and we had some newcomers named Chiara and Maria. They were very enjoyable to play with and get to know. Chiara plays the fiddle and Maria plays lots of different instruments, but is learning the banjo. Also, a fellow named Bob came for the 2nd time with Joe Ann and was also enjoyable to play with and get to know. The food was good, we played together well, and cleaned up right on time. Thanks for everyone’s help, especially Cici and Emma for helping to put away the chairs. Here are a few pictures from this event.

We also had an enjoyable jam on the last day of February. There was a good group of people. Chiara came for the 2nd time and she’s a great addition to the group. Bella joins in and sounds great on her fiddle and Athena is doing well learning to fiddle. Everyone is trying to play songs that most people can join and that helps a lot. We also had a couple of visitors who are friends of the Harveys who came just to watch and listen. That was great. Here are some pictures from this jam:
