Happy June 2024 everyone.  We had a good April and May in district 6 with an extra jam at the end of April and Ena’s 90th birthday party in the middle of the month.  Our last jam until our summer break (for sure this time) was June 1st.  I’ll include pictures of that in the August newsletter since this is a combined June/July one.

We had a bonus extra jam on April 27th.  Apparently the word got out because we had a good turn out.  All ages, abilities, and new faces combined to make an enjoyable jam.  Here are a few pictures which Shawna Smith provided.

Ena’s birthday party turned out well.  She had lots of friends and family to celebrate with.  The fiddlers came and played a lot of enjoyable  music which was well received.  A couple delicious cakes were served and we all went home tired, but happy.  Here are some photos also  provided by Shawna.  (Many thanks to her for helping out by way of photos.)

District 6 takes a break from meetings and jams for the summer because of vacations and other activities.  But, we all look forward to our first meeting/jam of the fall on the first Sat. of September, which is the 7th this year.  However, we still entertain at the retirement homes we have scheduled throughout the summer.  A heartfelt thank you to all who volunteer their time and talent for these play dates.

If you want to attend the workshop this year, be sure to sign up soon.  All the information is on the wotfa.org website.  It’s a great place to meet people and learn to play better on your preferred  instrument.  There are also plenty of other activities around the state to participate in, so keep checking the calendar on our website.

Keep in mind these dates in the fall for District 6:

  1. September 7th is our meeting/jam from 11 am to 4 pm at the DesMoines Masons Hall
  2. September 28th is our circle jam from 1 pm to 4 pm at the DesMoines Masons Hall
  3. October 5th is our meeting/jam from 11 am to 4 pm at the DesMoines Masons Hall
  4. October 26th is our circle jam from 1 pm to 4 pm at the DesMoines Masons Hall

Otherwise, keep playing music and enjoying the spring and start of summer.  Any questions or comments email me at timbuktoe@yahoo.com
