Hello folks!  District 6 has been plugging steadily along during the last half of March and first part of April.  We have a good core of members who have stepped up to play at the playouts.  These have all been well received by the audiences.  Bernie Turner is keeping track of who is playing at which one, so contact him at bernus.turner@comcast.net if you plan to participate.

Our last jam/meeting until September on April 9th was well attended.  As you can see (if you click on the pictures) we had a good group of players, dancers and singers.  It was so much fun.  The dancers are Cici, Emma, and their dad, Dave.

We will all miss our times together, so I encourage people to keep playing with other people when you can.  It’s always fun to have a group of people come play music in your home or even meet at a park!

Speaking of smaller groups, Clayton has hosted Bernie and me in his home regularly for quite a few years now.  This helps us keep up our skills, learn from each other and be ready to play together for audiences.  Clayton has been a great asset to the fiddlers for many years. He’s an excellent guitar player having played since he was a boy, which means over 80 years!  Talk about calluses!  And he’s still learning new things.  It’s rare that he misses a jam or meeting and he’s so personable that when he arrives, everyone is glad.  We all really enjoy and value Clayton.

Lastly, Roy Calvert would like to invite you all to Shirley’s celebration of life.  It will be held Sat. June 4th at 11 am at the DesMoines Masonic Center, located at 2208 S. 223rd in DesMoines, Wa.

Please bring your instruments so we can celebrate her life and play the music that Shirley loved.

Remember to sign up for fiddle camp if you are interested and pay your dues for the year if you haven’t already.  Please support the WOTFA organization in these ways.  It’s an important way to keep music that is accessible to everyone in our culture.
