Dear WOTFA Members,
I hope this message finds you in good spirits, surrounded by the harmonies of life. As we step into October, I’m excited to share a detailed account of our recent musical escapades and provide important updates for the month ahead.
Recap of Recent Events:
In the warm embrace of September, our musical community flourished. We joined hands and voices in a series of enriching events that truly embodied the essence of our shared passion.
At our jam sessions this summer, the air was filled with the delightful sounds of both familiar and new tunes. The talented ensemble including, Denise, Sarah, Diana, Rohxann, Sirkku, Carol, Saige, Richard, Rich, Barry, Hillary, Steve, Peggy, Forest, Sarah, Jack, Dwight, Danny, Gary, KerryAnn, Corinne, Sally, TJ, Mike, Tom, Fritz, Cristal, Dennis, and Marvin brought life to our melodies. It was heartening to witness the fusion of talents, creating an atmosphere rich with creativity and camaraderie.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to Teri, Sarah’s friend, whose assistance with coffee and goodies added an extra touch of warmth to our gatherings. These sessions are more than just music; they are a celebration of friendship and the joy of creating art together.
Special Recognition:
I extend my deepest appreciation to Richard from the Blue Grass Group, Irene from the SW Sr. Ctr., Joyce, and David, who graced us with their presence. Each note played and every song sung resonated with the spirit of our musical legacy.
A special mention goes to Cristal and Denise, whose voices echoed with grace and melody. Your singing not only captivated our hearts but also garnered well-deserved compliments. The soulful tunes and harmonies created by each member illuminated our events, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present.
Community Support and Connection:
Our recent outing to the Lynden Sr./Community Ctr. was met with genuine warmth and appreciation. The community’s response was overwhelming, with attendees expressing their enjoyment of our music. The memories of Bud Dupenthaler, shared by his wife Mirna, added a poignant touch to the event. The vintage fiddles given by Bud Burgess, and Old Time Fiddler T-shirts gifted from Mirna to us are cherished symbols of our connection to the rich history of music.
Additionally, a kind member, Bud Burgess of the Lynden Sr. Ctr. shared a fascinating family story of fiddling, bridging the gap between generations and reminding us of the enduring legacy of our craft. These encounters reinforce the importance of our mission to keep the Old Time music tradition alive.
Membership Renewal and Important Updates:
As we approach October, a month of renewal and reflection, I encourage each of you to find inspiration in the harmonies of our past events. Let the melodies guide your thoughts and renew your commitment to this musical journey we share. Membership rates remain at $25.00, and family membership is available at $5.00. We are adding an option this year of spending $10 for a printed and mailed copy of the Evergreen Fiddler. Please note the following membership guidelines:
- Guest musicians are encouraged to participate in the jam circle before deciding to join.
- Musicians must be WOTFA members to perform on stage or register for summer Fiddle Camp.
- Members receive benefits such as the Evergreen Fiddler and other Fiddler news.
- Paid members are eligible to participate in play-outs (part of our insurance rider).
District 4 has implemented a two-time visitor rule for jams, after which individuals are encouraged to become members; we will review this a bit at our Oct. meeting. While we have been flexible due to post-Covid adjustments, we must uphold the requirements listed above entrusted to us by the WOTFA Organization. Your understanding and cooperation in this matter are greatly appreciated.
Closing Thoughts:
Thank you, dear members, for your unwavering dedication and passion for Old Time music. Our community thrives because of your enthusiasm, talent, and commitment. Let’s carry this spirit into the coming month, embracing the beauty of music and the warmth of friendship.
