Once again, District 12 participated in the Fair Parade this year and it was great fun. Many thanks to the Wuennecke family for the leg work to arrange for and prepare and tow our District 12 wagon, and to Jeannette Plummer for the attractive wooden WOTFA sign (complete with logo) that was hung on the rear of our wagon, a new addition this year. Unfortunately, we were not invited to perform at the Fair itself this year but, as in sports, there is always next year.
We will be barbecuing again at our September meeting (Sunday, Sept.8) so please bring potluck sides to go with the hamburgers and hot dogs. Wuenneckes will bring all the condiments and tomatoes, onions and pickles.
We have a special play date on Monday, September 16, at the Sun Terrace senior home in Prosser. Sun Terrace is off of Exit 82 at 2131 Wine Country Road in Prosser, WA. We will start at 1:00 PM for a 1-hr performance.
District 12’s annual Fall Show will be at the Burbank Grange on Saturday, October 19. Unlike previous years, this year there will be no dinner time meal prepared and served by Grange staff. Doors will open at 2:00 as usual, for set up and jamming. Watch for the October Newsletter for any further details on this performance.
Lastly, consider attending the Tumbleweed Music Festival from Friday, August 30 through Sunday September 1, in Howard Amon Park, Richland, WA. The Festival, which is presented by Three Rivers Folklife Society, begins Friday and has performances and workshops on Saturday and Sunday (evening events will be by admission). Enjoy performances on several outdoor stages, or come inside to the air-conditioned Community Center to watch dance performances or take in a free music workshop.
We wish a speedy recovery for Carole Hailey, Burrell Hailey, and Jim Zimmershied from their respective surgeries. We look forward to seeing their smiling faces real soon at District 12 events.
