District 12 is looking to hold our next monthly business meeting on Sunday, October 10 at 2 PM at the Adult Day Services facility. WOTFA annual elections are coming up in October, where all District 12 leadership positions are up for election or re-election. Unless otherwise announced, member voting for your officers will be performed at the October monthly meeting. (From the District 12 Chairperson: If you choose to attend the meeting please be considerate of others and follow the Covid-19 protocols that each individual feels comfortable with. For example: Wear face masks, social distance, get vaccinated etc.) It was decided at the September meeting that for the foreseeable future, there will not be a potluck at our meetings-no hot dishes to serve and share. Finger foods only.
Opportunities for playouts at senior homes continue to be scheduled. In October, we will be providing 1-hour performances at Adult Day Services at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 11 and 25. For future planning, we are also scheduled at Adult Day Services for November 8 and 22 and December 6 and 20. Adult Day Services has required all musicians to be vaccinated for Covid-19 and to wear masks while entertaining. As of the date of this writing in mid-September, Parkview Estates has not yet informed us as to whether we should plan on performing there on September 22, or if we are invited to play there on Wednesday, October 27 at 6 PM.
We are once again playing at Hawthorne Court on first Wednesday of the month at 6 pm. That will be on October 6. We resumed playing at Hawthorne Court in August, and they were very happy to have us back. Like other facilities, Hawthorne Court has requested all musicians to be vaccinated and to mask up while entering and exiting the facility. They also request that musicians remain masked while playing, but that singers can unmask while singing.
Lastly, this month’s write up is my final Newsletter installment as your Reporter for District 12 because, after careful consideration, I have made the decision to step down from the reporter role that I have filled since April 2015. During my tenure, I have endeavored to provide District 12 members with useful, accurate, timely and, hopefully, interesting information in the Newsletter. But, it is time for me to move on. Therefore, District 12 is in need of a replacement Reporter. The role is to be filled by a volunteer or by appointment, as approved by the District Chair person. The position requires a “nose for news,” only very basic computer (i.e., word processing/typing) skills and access to an internet connection. If I can do it, you certainly can, too. If you have interest in serving our District by filling the Reporter role, please contact District 12 Chair Person Joe Gunter (509-948-1772, or by e-mail email@example.com). To help ease the transition, if desired, I would be willing to meet with my successor and share my thoughts on preparing Newsletter submissions.
