ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • The lovely article printed in last month’s newsletter in remembrance of Dave Perkins was written and submitted by Laura Farr. I apologize for not mentioning her and thanking her for sending that in. Bonni Wuennecke, Newsletter Editor
  • District elections this year have been put on hold until October 2021.
  • It’s almost time to renew your membership dues for 2021. Dues for 2021 will be accepted on October 1st, or after. Dues can be paid online at http://members.wotfa.or via Paypal, debit or credit card An application is on Page 12 for your convenience. PLEASE mail your check made out to WOTFA to the address on the membership application, NOT to the return address on the newsletter, as this slows things down.
From the Editor

The Evergreen Fiddler is going digital!

Starting January 1, 2021, we will be discontinuing the printed newsletter and sending it to your email instead.

This decision was not an easy one to make.  With declining membership, increasing costs and a growing cry from the membership, the Board has decided to move the newsletter to an all digital format.  There will be a transitional period between now and the end of the year.  You will continue to receive the newsletter in your mail, and you will also receive one in your email.

If you do not have access to email, or you don't do computers, and you need a paper copy mailed to you, please send a letter or email to:

Bonni Wuennecke

3024 W 7th Ave
KennewickWA 99336

bonniwuenn@frontier.com

Please take the time to check out the new format.  The new format promises to provide more content for what our members are requesting.  You will still have the Tune of the Month with additional features. The events for the month will be listed in each newsletter and you can browse the website for more content than we could ever put in the newsletter.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we go through this transition.

From the President

Missing Fiddle Camp T-Shirt campaign

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to the "Missing Fiddle Camp 2020 T-Shirt campaign. Together we have raised more than a thousand dollars! Although we didn’t have an official winner in the “Hidden Meanings” contest, we did have some creative answers and ones worth keeping as we all enjoy our t-shirts, mugs, and tote bags.
If you want to get a shirt, mug, or tote bag, you still can!
Just visit https://www.bonfire.com/fiddlecamp2020/ All purchases will be mailed directly to you, and all proceeds will continue to contribute to Fiddle Camp 2021!

The "Missing Fiddle Camp" hidden meanings

Here are the meanings that went into the original design:

  1. The two musicians are wearing masks to keep each other safe
  2. They are socially distanced by 6 measures (6 feet apart)
  3. Although they're separated, they're still connected by music
  4. The tune they are sharing is called "The Reunion" - since everyone is longing to get back together
  5. "The Reunion" was written by Vivian Williams, Washington's fiddling legend and our own renowned Fiddle Camp instructor.

Additional meanings others have derived and worth mentioning:

  1. The tune is twisted and backwards in the middle - just like our online attempts at jam sessions and music lessons get twisted by internet connections that aren't meant to handle streaming musicians
  2. The tune is in a major key - because even in these times, we remain hopeful
  3. The tune does not resolve to the tonic, "so this darn thing is not over. Yet."
  4. A shout out to lefties, the guitarist is left handed
  5. "Missing" fiddle camp has a dual meaning - and can either mean we're all sad and nostalgic toward fiddle camp but also 2020 is the year of the "missing" fiddle camp in WOTFA records.

If you want to get a shirt, mug, or totebag, you still can!

Just visit https://www.bonfire.com/fiddlecamp2020/ All purchases will be mailed directly to you, and all proceeds will contribute to Fiddle Camp 2021!
